چکیده

This paper describes features in the structure of a laminar vortex ring ejected vertically from an elevated pipe into a uniform horizontal cross flow. Measurements are obtained by particleimage velocimetry (PIV) and flow-visualisation images are obtained by planar-laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF). Cross flow produces a shear layer over the open end of the elevated pipe. As a vortex ring is ejected, it lifts the cross-flow shear layer away from the elevated pipe. As the sides of the shear layer stretch and convect in the direction of the cross flow, they form a pair of counter-rotating “columnar” vortices. The columnar vortices link the rear of the pipe to the middle of the vortex ring.

Numerical Investigation of Vortex Interaction in Pipe Flow

To discover the nonlinear characteristics of pipe flow, we simulated the flow as a sum of many vortex rings. As a first step, we investigated the nonlinear interaction among a maximum of three vortex rings. The pipe wall was replaced by many bound vortices. A free vortex ring moves right or left according to the radius, and that of a particular radius keeps the initial position. The energy of a...

Investigation of vortex-induced vibration phenomenon in verticallong circular slender structure with non-uniform flows

Analyzing the vortex-induced vibration of a slender marine structure withlength to diameter ratio up to 200 is the objective of this study. This slender is free to move in both in-line and cross flow directions and immersed completely in water. Three different types of shear currents pass on it and cause to vibrate slender in different forms. Nowadays, these vibrations are very important for de...

Effects Of Frequency Variation At Inlet Flow On The Vortex Shedding Frequency Behind A Circular Cylinder

In many applications the flow that past bluff bodies has frequency nature (oscillated) and it is not uniform. This kind of flow has effects on the formation of vortex shedding behind bluff bodies. In this paper the flow around a circular cylinder was numerically simulated. The effects of frequency variation at inlet flow on the vortex shedding frequency were investigated. The transient Two-Dime...

EXISTENCE OF A STEADY FLOW WITH A BOUNDED VORTEX IN AN UNBOUNDED DOMAIN

We prove the existence of steady 2-dimensional flows, containing a bounded vortex, and approaching a uniform flow at infinity. The data prescribed is the rearrangement class of the vorticity field. The corresponding stream function satisfies a semilinear elliptic partial differential equation. The result is proved by maximizing the kinetic energy over all flows whose vorticity fields are rearra...

Effect of Wing Sweep Angle on the Vortex Interaction of a Tail-Wing Configuration

The goal of this investigation is to study the effect of wing sweep angle on the horizontal wing-body- tail configurations in subsonic flow. For this purpose, a series of wind tunnel tests were conducted on a model having a moveable horizontal tail and a wing planform with different sweep angles. Tests were performed at different tail deflection angles. Static surface pressure distribution over...
